The Words I Tried To Say

Just in case you should want this Mary, I figured I’d put what I was trying to say on my blog. It’s slightly easier to find than an email, as I don’t post on here nearly as much as I email you.
You are loved.

I’ve been writing this speech pretty much since Damien and Mary got engaged. About two weeks ago, I read it to my sister. Afterward she just kind of looked at me and then I realized something: I wrote it wrong. The point of these speeches is to show everyone how amazing the person sitting next to you is. So I thought about which stories I could tell to show you all how fantastic Mary is and then I realized that if you’ve met Mary, you already know. You have your own stories. You’ve been on adventures together or share inside jokes. You know how easy it is to become involved in things she cares about, because her passion is infectious and genuine. You know her heart and can see how beautiful she is, both inside and out.
Mary and I have been friends for 10 years. She means so much to me that it’s hard to put it into words. And what overwhelms me today is knowing that as much as we love Mary, Damien loves her more. I am so thankful that someone I care about so much is loved so well.
